Says Michelle of Lace: “The dusty pink and dark grey striping that occurs in Lace and in Modern House derives from my interest in dazzle camouflage patterns, applied to military ships in WWI. Like the marbleising, the dazzle camo imagery is another specialised type of pattern that I’ve researched extensively. This work shows how I’ll often set up a certain rhythm with pattern and geometry, and then interrupt or subvert it with a different rhythm. The drooping curtain or ‘lace’ acts as a soft architecture, a fluid layer in the space.”
