Katrina O’Brien’s striking works of ink, acrylic and graphite sway between painting and drawing. Indeed, Katrina sees her artwork as a kind of dance, and a way of delving into her own and others’ inner psyche.
Says Katrina: “This piece is capturing music meeting a dream…with the words mirroring real life. Music, dream and life all meeting together at a point in time as if it was always meant to be.
The dream that this work comes from is a dream of long ago where the stars fell from the sky. I stood on the earth and the stars came crashing down around me. Never have I dreamed a more amazingly apocalyptic thing. I can recall it like it was yesterday – but I was a teenager when I dreamt it. It has been in the back of my mind since, waiting for the right time to come out. 2020 must’ve seemed a fitting time. The other week the dream seemed to drop out of the abyss, into the forefront of my mind. It’s in two parts – the moment before the stars fell (Dance of The Songbirds), and during their fall (The Articulation). The crashing part of the dream is still to come.”
Initialed on front.
