Lily Cummins is an artist based in the Southern Highlands, NSW. She works with a combination of abstract and recognisable forms, questioning the idea of representation and creating a dream-like patchwork of memory. A language of marks and shapes defines Lily’s work as she observes her surroundings and translates them into drawings.
Lily says of this work: ‘Interrupting this imagined landscape are spaces or holes, the result of the process of drawing a remembered space, a place from a time that doesn’t exist anymore. The gaps are a way of traversing the fragmented space and are representations of outdoor spaces that the eye can make up as it wishes.’
