Gidon Bing is an Auckland-based sculptor and designer. Classically trained through traditional sculptural ateliers and studios, and formally trained via academic studies in associated fields of prehistory, archaeology and anthropology. His work exhibits essential, expressive and pure form. Gidon’s work often blends techniques such as traditional Japanese wood bending, carving, plaster turning and mould making, as well as more contemporary approaches such as electroforming and 3D printing. The resulting objects reflect the universality of simple, balanced, asymmetric geometry.
Designed a produced from a modest boatshed on Auckland’s tidal estuary, Gidon Bing’s work is collected worldwide and has been sold and featured in Selfridges London, Milan’s Salone del Mobile, as well as a small group of discerning local and international galleries.
