Trees are powerful symbols of perseverance, hope, beauty and wisdom, representing balance, growth, strength and stability.
With the Counterbalance series, Odette Ireland has deconstructed the tree to its three basic elements – the trunk, leaf and pod, the essence of a single tree. These forms relate to the three basic ceramic forms – the cylinder, plate and bowl. Using these three elements she has constructed sculptures that re-imagine the tree.
Odette says of her work: “My aim is to create pieces that inspire an appreciation for composition and remind us of the beauty found in our natural landscape”.
