Says Ben of this work: ” I love the imagery of people in trees. I think it’s such a common activity that we all shared in our childhood that it resonates universally. The tree has become somewhat symbolic for me in my painting practice. In this tree, three brothers sit overlooking a ramshackle house they’ve built in amongst its limbs. Has the house been abandoned or are they going to carry on working together to finish it?”

Ben Crawford is a figurative painter. He mostly paints about his life, exploring the story telling possibilities of distorted memories and dreams. Surreal elements transform the landscapes he paints into somewhat mystical realms, bursting with colour and charged with mystery. Figures, architecture and landmarks drawn from his life imbue Ben’s paintings with a sense of narrative, anchoring his work tentatively to reality.
