Says Susie of this work, “The sun-like orb in the painting First Born references a sound recording children playing on the beach as seen on a spectrogram. The playful calling was broken up by the wind and the graph had dots of evidence at the frequency that the children’s voices would sit. The orb could read as the sun or the moon but it represents the sound of children’s voices tumbling in wind, revealing patterns and connections between the ancient flows of the earth and the flows of human life.”
