Says Susie of her work: “From time to time the concept of ‘Gold’ as a moment of beauty, which is essentially a moment of deep connection, arises in reference to my work. The naming of this concept as ‘Gold’ comes from the Robert Frost poem ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ (1923). I know well the feeling of being ‘In Gold’ but it never lasts. It is a moment of profound connection to something much bigger than myself. It is a moment outside of thought, outside of reason, outside of time. Sophie sometimes describes my landscapes as biographies – this is a good example – ‘In Gold’ is a portrait of ‘us’ in our most harmonious form.”
