Says Maria Kostareva of her painting Morning Of The New Day: “I painted this work during isolation. The still life genre allowed me to reflect upon our connection with the physical things around us. I think that turning to familiar objects and everyday rituals gives the illusion of control over a situation.”

Maria says of her series of urban moments: “It seems to me that when everyday spaces within a city become so utilitarian and impersonal, a place for the person themselves is paradoxically liberated. When you do not need to think about how to cross the street safely, you can devote those minutes to anything you like. If you switch off the automatic mode of repetitive actions, you can start to pay attention to visual images around you.
