At 15 years old she enrolled at Yirara College in Alice Springs where she learnt how to create art. When she completed school she started painting for Mbantua Aboriginal Art Gallery in Alice Springs. She does acrylic on canvas, wood carving and native seed jewellery making. Dianne’s themes in her artworks are Bush Medicine, Bush Tucker, and Women’s Body Painting. Dianne now works as an assistant Arts Worker at the Engawala Art Centre. She started studying Visual Arts at Batchelor Institute in Alice Springs in 2022. Dianne’s goal is to complete Certificate 3 in Visual Arts to gain more skills for her job and passion. Dianne sells her artworks at Northern Territory markets and can also be found on the Engawala Art Centre website.
At the Engawala Art Centre many of the artists use mega fauna as subjects in their paintings and other artworks. A common image the artists use is that of dromornis stirtoni an ostrich like bird with a massive bill. A representation of it can be seen on the floor of the Art Centre, painted by local artists. As Art Centre Manager Janine Tilmouth explains “We paint those paintings of the megafauna because it’s right in our backyard. It’s part of our life here. It’s just here and I think that’s amazing because they are extinct. I think it’s our job to tell everyone what we have here”.
