Says Amy Wright of her painting Silver Gums in the Blue Haze: “To start, I break a landscape down into colour, light and texture. I see the landscape as a collage of these elements. It is the details that are often dismissed or have gone unnoticed that I attempt to bring to the fore.
“The You Yangs mountain range appears, from a distance, to emerge abruptly from flat terrain. Its silhouette throughout the day displays a range of colours; a morning’s pink glow, midday highlights of yellowed coppers, to an afternoon blue haze. Captured here is the blanketing blued lighting on a hot afternoon set against saturated colours of fallen leaf litter set amidst rocky outcrops.”
