In this series, Madeleine Cruise continues to investigate the relationship between art and life and the meditative role of painting. Based on the interiors of her own home and garden, Madeleine has carefully composed paintings that reevaluate the status of common objects and domestic tasks while demonstrating the home as an important place for contemplation.
She says of her work Straighten Up and Keep it Together: “This work is based on the interior of the artist’s home and features extracts of pattern, shape, colour and motifs present in her daily life. The use of reductive form, geometry and flattening of space is associated with the artist’s use of painting as a meditative practice, where emotions are externalised and life dilemmas are played out in carefully orchestrated compositions.”
