Katrina O’Brien’s striking works of ink, acrylic and graphite sway between painting and drawing. Indeed, Katrina sees her artwork as a kind of dance, and a way of delving into her own and others’ inner psyche.
Says Katrina: “This work is a pure expression of the year 2020, and, a response to sound. Often when the expressive parts of my work have been laid down, I add small elements that are more considered – mixing thoughts with feelings to balance it all out. In creating this work, I didn’t have time to stop and think.
“A song I have listened to a lot during the past few months is Strange Weather, by Anna Calvi. It said so much about 2020 to me – not necessarily lyrically, just on a pure sound level. I think this work also reflects the feelings we’ve all had during this time. But it’s more than that – though this has been a strange time for us all, there have also been surprising elements of hope and beauty.”
