Says Darcy of this work: “This work features a figure from Paul Cezzane’s ‘The Bathers’ 1895. I wanted to recreate the pose of one of the figures in a new environment. The landscape surrounding the figure is based on a garden in Northern N.S.W.”
Darcy McCrae is an Australian artist, based between the Northern Rivers and the Gulf of Carpentaria. A self-taught painter, Darcy works using predominantly with acrylics on canvas and linen, creating bold artworks in a lo-fi naive style. Painting classic subjects such as still life and portraits, Darcy uses simple yet powerful mark-making and colour palettes to achieve honest and emotional work.
