Fleur’s new series of portraits speak to brief moments of stillness.. before by an idea; a direction or motion; contemplative pause during an engaging conversation and being enveloped by a fading sunset.
“The recent Covid restrictions limited my practise to my studio and rather than venturing out into landscapes, I took the opportunity to work into the self-reflective nature of being in lockdown and develop a series of portraits.
This series of works is not only a shift in subject matter, but a new way of discovering how I form connections with my work, if I’m not painting from life. The ritual of drawing and jotting down ideas in my journal, discovering new places with family and treasured jaunts around the countryside and visiting galleries with art buddies. ”
In her work Fleur hopes to convey both the strength of connection to a figure captured in a moment, contrasted with the sense of detachment or separation by floating on a background.
