Curatorial+Co. presents The Colour of Country – a collaborative offsite exhibition in our Woolloomooloo gallery with the National Indigenous Art Fair (NIAF), co-curated by Dunghutti/Gomeroi curator Nioka Lowe-Brennan, from 2–19 July 2025.
Murrungun is a respected elder and master weaver from Numbulwar, where she was born and continues to live. A member of the Murrungun clan and a speaker of Nunggubuyu, Susan plays a vital role at Numbulwar Numburindi Arts, passing on Country knowledge and artistic skill to younger generations. Her weaving and painting reflect the same precision – delicate, immaculate, and deeply expressive. In 2024, her work was featured in Maguj Nanja, a major group commission for the new AusPost headquarters in Melbourne. Susan is one of the few artists who paints scenes of everyday life in Numbulwar. Her figures, though faceless, are unmistakably recognizable – defined by their posture, hair, and clothing. In this work, she honours the women of the art centre: their daily presence, strength, and central place in community life.
