Levande, The Cambridge, Epping

This high-rise retirement living concept in Sydney’s burgeoning north-west is more five-star hotel than typical residential village. The 28-storey development encompasses various levels of aged care, together with dining and indoor/outdoor living spaces, games rooms, gardens, pool and gym, and a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Sydney city. The art curation spans paintings, textiles and wall sculptures, ceramic works and site-specific sculptural installations of more than 120 original artworks.

Artworks act as wayfinding on each of the 28 residential floors

The art curation in each lift lobby enhances not just the aesthetics of the space but also acts as wayfinding, as each level sits within a specific colour scheme to aid residents in finding their floor. Brett Anthony Moore’s illuminated ‘paint skin’ works are colour coded for each level, assisting residents to locate their floor. Sarah Eddowes’ whimsical silicon works appear as weavings and sit within the floor’s colour palette.

The contemporary design of the common areas calls for large-scale abstract and landscape works to mirror the modern living of the apartment complex.
