In Wyangala, the land holds its own quiet rhythm–light glancing across granite forms, wind bending through grass, the slow turning of time inscribed in every contour. Immersed in this landscape, Belinda Street paints not only what she sees, but what she feels: the shimmer of heat, the memory of footsteps, the echo of presence that lingers long after we pass. The artist’s brushstrokes move like weather–bold, searching, alive–translating sensation into colour and rhythm. Each gesture speaks of connection and transience, of how place imprints itself upon us. Created en plein air, this was the first painting I created during the residency. It began right up the top of the property, early in the morning. As I painted, I watched the light creep over the countryside, illuminating the yellow and brown grasses, the grey personality filled granite boulders with long blue shadows, the light changing as it spread across the land.
