Chloe Caday

Artist's Statement

Recognised by her gestural landscapes, Caday explores her historical, cultural and spiritual connections to place utilising her practice to connect with her Filipino heritage and life living and working in the Victorian bushland. Finding solace within her home in the bush, each intuitive and organic motion of the brush is a direct response to her environment – exploring the intricate and rhythmic interplay of sound, light and form. Caday’s practice is a direct response to her experiences and memories within Australian and Filipino landscapes, acknowledging the ability of the land to hold forgotten histories and stories.

Biography

Chloe Caday (b.1997) is a contemporary landscape painter based in Wadawurrung country, Victoria. Born in Quezon City, a highly urbanised city in the Philippines, Caday immigrated to Australia in 2003. She now lives and works in She Oaks, surrounded by Victorian bushland. In 2017 Caday graduated from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Art. She has been exhibiting across Australia since 2017 and has been represented by Curatorial+Co. since 2020.

Chloe Caday has been a finalist in several art prizes, including the 2024 Blacktown City Art Prize and the 2022 Paddington Art Prize. Her work was published in The Calamansi Story: Filipino Migrants in Australia, a book highlighting life histories and personal migration experiences of everyday first and second-generation Filipino migrants. The Design Files and Hunter & Folk have also featured her story.
