Ana Young

Ana Young’s practice explores time, memory and silence. Her paintings respond to the Australian bush rather than depict it, turning experience into abstraction. Layered compositions and diffused forms carry traces of emotion and memory. Colour and shape slow the viewer and hold them in a suspended temporality. Painting reclaims slowness – a space for reflection and respite where fleeting fragments of time and feeling take form and extend beyond the canvas.

This work forms part of a triptych responding to a single locale, Cowra. Granite monoliths stand over the plains, ancient and silent. They watch, and the work keeps their vigil.

Developed from direct, embodied experience during a 2025 residency at The Corridor Project on Wiradjuri Country, the work treats landscape as generative methodology rather than motif. Geology, weather and cultural histories inform gesture, surface and structure.
