This work is part of Isabelle de Kleine’ exhibition, 'As It Was'. The works explore the beautiful yet flawed nature of identity and perception. They consider the instability of memory, and the inconsistencies and subjectivities that shape our experience of the world. Areas of fragmentation, revelation and obfuscation intersect the forms, alluding to the tenuous nature of the psyche and the overstimulation of modern life. Questioning the notion of objective truth and authenticity in the age of information, whilst highlighting the beauty of their unique perspectives.
Says de Kleine: "'Iron Stain, Rose Tint' explores the romanticisation and reshaping of memory. The rose-tinted lens of nostalgia, and the degradation of recall that occurs in the passing of time. In particular referencing the journey of revisiting a place of significance in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia. Hours along a dusty desert road to a place that holds memories of love and loss. This painting intends to portray a softer lens, finding peace in the settled dust."
