Liliana Pasalic

This work by Liliana Pasalic is from an ongoing series of works based in layered processes of painting, sculpture, and photography. Each image is constructed by making many elements by hand – paintings, drawings, temporary sculptures – and, as a final step, each work is photographed or parts of the work printed, painted on and rephotographed, before the final print is created.

Says Pasalic: "Through fierce experimentation, demonstrating a collision of techniques, this process draws from the metaphysical and philosophical relationship between humans and the environment, both built and natural and their coexistence.
This series takes cues from the encroachment of urban development on organic life. Through fragmented imagery – flora softness against rigid urban walls and building sites, the work critiques how concrete landscapes engulf nature. The work reflects the emotional and ecological residue left behind, revealing the human yearning for green space amid sterile, built environments. It confronts our disconnection from the natural world we continually overwrite."
