Caroline Duffy

Caroline Duffy creates sculptures from reclaimed steel sourced from scrap yards. These industrial materials inherently possess a non-organic quality, and the rusted, fractured, and contorted fragments serve as catalysts for the emergence of abstract forms. Each sculpture evolves intuitively, assuming a distinct vitality of its own. The works function as new forms—sculptures without prescribed purpose—articulating space through openings and enclosures, while simultaneously carrying traces of their former existence. In this way, the steel continues its life beyond utility. The material’s inherent weight and density imbue the works with a sense of gravitas and permanence.

Each sculpture stands as an individual entity, unanchored to narrative associations of person or place. The process is guided by intuition; it is the material itself that initiates creation and ignites the artist’s imagination.
