Kate Banazi’s practice is anchored in the human body — drawn from life, then pulled apart into fragments of line, limb, and edge that shift, repeat, and resist fixed meaning. The body moves through sketch, computer, photograph, screen, and print, each layer adding distortion.
Says Banazi of this work: "The drawings are there, whether they are seen is another matter. Graphite scratches bodies on top of bodies only appearing illuminated when caught in light . Come closer and they sharpen, closer still and they disappear again.
"Would you know me if you found me, or only under the right conditions?"
