"This painting refers to a couture dressmaking technique pioneered by the designer John Galliano ‘that echoes something that once was, evoked within the creation of something new: the memory of a collar stitched into a shirt, or the memory of a crease flocked across the surface of a coat.’ Fashion isn’t a product, it as an extension of human experience and a form of aesthetic expression. It is also a springboard to explore the joy of losing oneself and conjuring up worlds. It is an invitation to dream. This abiding love of fashion permeates my work, as evident in this work", says Lynn Savery of this work.

Savery’s paintings possess a strong sense of style and carry layers of mystery and introspection. Her subject matter seamlessly melds into stories in which every detail is attended to. Constantly inventing distinct mise-en-scenes in her head and drawing on historical references, Savery aims to translate the past into contemporary renditions of romanticism.
