This work is part of Curatorial+Co.'s 2026 group exhibition, 'The Beast In Me'.

Of all the internal mechanisms that drive us, perhaps the most primordial is the beast. We expel the animal, the bodily, the base in favour of the intellect, yet it is the beast that holds what is most irreducibly human—impulses and desires that precede thought: love, rage, care, protection, connection. The very thing we suppress is also the thing that touches what is most vital.

Says Martina Clarke of this work, "It is in our nature to dramatise. In 'Waiting Late', the knife means nothing but suggests everything. The stage has been set and the mood is palpable.

"A knife glints, suspended in a candlelit table. The glassware suggests the end of an evening and a hand floats in dramatic lighting, contemplating the knife. The scene offers a crossroads to a question we can't divine. Yet, the intimacy of the moment begs us forwards. What is she waiting for?"
