Says Tiarna Herczeg of this work, "During this process, I find myself reflecting upon deep and personal memories that shaped me. When I moved to Queensland, I am reminded of my childhood here. My Great Grandmother, Jean Alberts, had a big mango tree in her yard. It was significant to me. Us kids would play around the tree and eat from it too, if the bats hadn't got to it. Nanna used to get us kids inside by telling us, "Don't go by that tree or the hairy men will get ya." Her place was alive, and she treated it that way too. My Nanna Alberts has passed, but is still with me. That mango tree has probably been chopped down now. But really, it wasn't about the mango tree.
"Painting becomes a way of paying attention. A way of recording things that are otherwise recorded in my mind and written into my life. The works do not explain these experiences. They simply allow them to exist in a tangible way."
