Says Brett Anthony Moore of this work, "Often when composing a work, the act of mark-making with paint skins embodies a figurative element where voices come alive and a scene takes place lit by conversations."
Moore deepens his ongoing exploration of colour theory through the luminous translucency of his back-lit paint skins. Each work becomes a site where abstract thought is unpacked with quiet precision – subtle shifts in form, deliberate irregularities, and layered chromatic decisions all converge to articulate a lexicon of contemporary abstraction.
Drawing from a tertiary-based palette, the compositions evolve from Moore’s close study of the bushland of Southern NSW. Observing the transition from winter to spring – when the landscape initiates its seasonal act of reinvention – the artist draws from a spectrum of native hues that emerge with new life. These colours, both delicate and expansive, inform a body of work that captures the elusive rhythms of the natural world through a refined, chromatic sensibility.
