Kate Banazi’s practice is anchored in the human body — drawn from life, then pulled apart into fragments of line, limb, and edge that shift, repeat, and resist fixed meaning. The body moves through sketch, computer, photograph, screen, and print, each layer adding distortion.
Says Banazi of this work: "Cut, stretched and stained with pigment, the paper carries the trace of a body without describing one. Its surface a terrain marked, beautiful and imperfect, caught between figure and abstraction. Tightly bound within a clear box, the unruly is made to appear contained. The frame offers control while the body inside quietly refuses."
