Lynn Savery’s paintings possess a strong sense of style and carry layers of mystery and introspection. Her subject matter seamlessly melds into stories in which every detail is attended to. Constantly inventing distinct mise-en-scenes in her head and drawing on historical references, Savery aims to translate the past into contemporary renditions of romanticism.

Something emerges that is both more real and less real than the elements that made it possible, like the Tartini tone that emerges between two musical notes, or the rainbow that emerges between sun and rain. A rainbow is made of water and light, and nothing more. But a rainbow is not just water and light. It is also a rainbow. There is a space here — a palpable unfolding, a slippage in time, a poetic vibration or murmur — that reverberates through the work and points toward something we cannot pin down. It invites us to sit with instability, full of potential and change.
