Kate Banazi’s practice is anchored in the human body — drawn from life, then pulled apart into fragments of line, limb, and edge that shift, repeat, and resist fixed meaning. The body moves through sketch, computer, photograph, screen, and print, each layer adding distortion.
Says Banazi of this work: "The hand-built aluminium frame becomes an aperture, blunt and bearing the evidence of touch. Behind it the image passes through rippled glass and comes back slightly wrong through a shifting filter. An uncomfortable distance between what we understand what something is and what appears before us.
"You get the picture.
