Kate Banazi’s practice is anchored in the human body — drawn from life, then pulled apart into fragments of line, limb, and edge that shift, repeat, and resist fixed meaning. The body moves through sketch, computer, photograph, screen, and print, each layer adding distortion.
Says Banazi of this work: "Forms are pulled from the folds and voids of cosmetic boxes, the shapes are rescaled in raw brushed aluminium and reconfigured as a flawed portrait. Sprayed and sanded repeatedly. Pitting, scratches and traces of handling remain - scars, skin and fur.
"The makeup comes off, the marks stay.
