Mim Fluhrer

Mim Fluhrer lives and paints on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. Surrounded by the Australian bush, the coastal shrub as well as the fertile rainforests of Dorrigo Ranges and the magical Bellingen river, Mim is an abstract painter whose work is heavily influenced by the natural environment. Mim’s paintings often utilise vibrant and earthy tones, whilst experimenting with compositional structure. The play between organic forms and repeated mark-making is another key characteristic of the artist’s paintings. Mim explores ideas of
ritual in her mark-making, with the intention of making her work a place for audiences to quieten and connect. Embedded in this process is her own personal exploration of her life, motherhood, honouring her ancestry of Eastern European decent whilst residing on Australian soil.

“I love colour. I love paint. I love the shapes and forms that only nature knows how to create. I love the limitlessness of space found in this country’s landscape. I love being witness to all this, connecting to it, and then bringing it back to my studio to explore my interpretations, my questions, my dance with paint and brush,” says Mim.

Mim Fluhrer holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from the National Art School (NAS) in Sydney. She was a finalist in the 2019 Paddington Art Prize, the 2023 Muswellbrook Art Prize, and in the National Emerging Art Prize in both 2021 and 2022. Mim has works held in private collections in the UK, Germany, Italy and Australia.
