Odette Ireland

Odette Ireland portrait in front of her hanging sculptures

Odette Ireland is a Sydney based ceramic artist. Her art practice is concerned with themes associated with connection/disconnection to place.

Ireland creates both small and large ceramic and mixed media sculptures that are suspended, free standing and wall hanging works. The works reflect and communicate her responses to the world around her and her relationship to it.

Odette’s sculptures are made using various clays, surface treatments and mixed media, which add complexity the compositions. The pieces are hand-built using a combination of slip-casting, press-moulding and slabbing techniques from raku, stoneware and porcelain clays.

Inspired by nature and influenced by Alexander Calder’s mobiles, Ireland carefully crafts and assembles sculptural works that compel and intrigue. The unconventional combinations of materials, together with the unexpected use of movement, result in artworks that inspire an appreciation of composition and form as well as reminding us of the beauty within our natural landscape.

Odette has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, and has been a finalist in Sculpture in the Vineyards 2013, Sculpture at Sawmillers 2014,  Artisans in the Gardens 2014 and 2018 and she was a finalist in the North Sydney Art Prize 2017.

To continue her studies in ceramics she has recently completed the Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Ceramics at NSI TAFE Hornsby Campus.
