Natalie Rosin’s, Gehry UTS No.1, is part of her latest series, Built Portraiture, and pair to Gehry UTS No.2 . The series is an exploration and reinterpretation of forms, structures, and architectural patterns observed across various buildings within Sydney, the city Natalie calls home. Each piece focuses on a specific built structure located in Sydney and aims to sculpturally introduce their identity through form, pattern, silhouette, shadow, and movement.
Natalie says of this work: “This sculpture takes inspiration from the renowned ‘starchitect’ Frank Gehry’s UTS Dr Chau Chak Wing building located in Ultimo, known for its controversial design. Specifically, my focus lies in the undulating and organic exterior walls, colloquially compared to a paper bag, which create a striking contrast with the precisely positioned square window cut-outs that adorn the facade. The interplay between these elements gives rise to a form that is simultaneously organic and geometric in nature, engaging in a captivating dialogue.”
