This work is part of Jasmine Poole + Chris Sewell’s 2024 exhibition, I Have More To Say.
Through their photographs, Jasmine + Chris create the illusion that the viewer is located within each frame – embroiled in the moment when something has happened. A sense of intimacy is created through the tight crop composition where only part of the location and moment is accessible to the viewer. By lighting the objects in a dark, cinematic way a melancholic atmosphere is cast. Just like the catharsis you feel when listening to a sad song the feeling you get when encountering these moments is much the same.
There are no figures in any of the works. Instead, objects communicate a human presence – taps left running, cigarettes left burning, teapots overflowing. The audience is both a voyeur and a participant. Sometimes it just takes one object to inspire a conversation – a missing photograph from a wall, a love note in a bouquet, the deflated balloon in the backseat of a car. Who are they, what has been left unsaid and where do we go from here? Bringing our own lived experiences to these photographs allows each viewer the opportunity to weave their narrative within Chris and Jasmine’s world.
