This work is part of Tiarna Herczeg’s latest series of paintings Are You Listening? which seeks to immortalise the often unseen, ephemeral moments of human existence through a discovery of meaning. At the centre of Herczeg’s practice is a deep listening; through her work, she invites the viewer to reflect on the sounds, rhythms and emotions found in the quiet simplicity of her distinctive compositions.
“This painting represents a pool of cold water and plain landscape,” says Herczeg.
Herczeg is a proud Kuku Yalanji and Hungarian woman and artist who aims to share her experience of dual identity through storytelling. Her vast planes and expressive compositions symbolise how she sees the land, whilst her palettes are tied to her inner psyche and physicality, her spirituality and feelings; one exists in perpetuity and the other only exists for a moment in time.
This work is framed in Tasmanian oak.
