“Spectrograms have played a crucial role in informing this body of work. By translating recorded pulses and frequencies into images, I have become attuned to an invisible reality that exists beyond human perception. These visual traces reveal the many ways that non-human species communicate. My paintings seek to echo this, offering a kind of visual listening, a space where sound and rhythm become visible. My works invite the viewer to sense the pulse of the earth, feel the unseen currents that connect us to the world, and experience the shared rhythm of body and landscape.”

“Pulse is about my growing awareness of the pulse of the earth as I see in the spectrogram recordings I have been making since 2020. But the work is as much about my own pulse because my landscapes are portraits as much as they are about the external world.

“The earth pulses every twenty six seconds as captured by seismic stations around the world. The pulse is one of the few signals being generated regularly, clearly, and accurately. Researchers suggest may be linked to ocean waves crashing against the continental shelf, or possibly volcanic activity deep beneath the ocean floor.”
