Depicting the female form in landscapes that are eerie and post-apocalyptic in their starkness – rough-hewn incarnations of the Garden of Eden – Lilli Waters draws inspiration from biblical narratives of creation and the fall of man (woman). The marble skin of these figures, luminous in dark, uninhabited landscapes conjure images from myths and fairy-tales that allude to a state of innocence and wonder.⁠

It has been an extraordinary year for Curatorial+Co.'s Art Consultancy. 2024 has seen remarkable growth, bigger projects, and the delivery of our most ambitious projects yet. What a pleasure to look back on some of our Art Consultancy highlights from the year that was.⁠
⁠
1. Lanson Place Parliament Gardens, Melbourne, presents a collection of over 450 artworks across 15 levels as well as a monumental 40-meter mirrored ceiling installation by Boonwurrung, Wemba Wemba and Trawlwoolway woman and artist Jarra Karalinar Steel and sculptor Corey Thomas.⁠

2. Arthur Phillip High School in Parramatta, Sydney, illuminates Aboriginal history with two significant murals by Dharug artists Chris and Leanne Tobin which capture the historical meeting between Governor Arthur Phillip and the Barramadagal.⁠

3. Urban Logistics Co. engaged Curatorial+Co. to commission a 200m2 mural by First Nations/Hungarian artist Tiarna Herczeg, for their industrial estate in Sydney’s south.⁠
⁠
4 + 5. Curatorial+Co.’s successful partnership with Brookfield Place continues placing a selection of artworks in their Sydney lobby. First Nations artist Kim Healey and multimedia artist Hannah Quinlivan featured this year as part of the ongoing exhibition program.⁠

6. The Tank Stream Hotel, Sydney, features work by Michael Baird and Ariella friend, drawing on its historic location near Sydney's first water supply for its curatorial vision.⁠

ART PRIZE. Congratulations to the ever talented Kate Banazi on her shortlisted entry, 'BackHipsBonesLips', 2024, in the 2025 Burnie Print Prize, presenting the best works from established, emerging and cross-disciplinary artists.⁠
⁠
Says Kate of this work, "My work is based off life drawings - from models and of my own body. The shapes are pulled from outlines of these drawings, entwined and meshing, evoking tumbling hormones and dizzying vertigo. The drawings go through multiple process to get to graphic linear motifs and then again to be transferred to silkscreens. Each step, is a move away from the source material thrust into isolation and brought back to an integrated form. ⁠
⁠
"The intricacies of organs and veins, saps and plasma thrown together as an ornate decorative topology - a map. Pulsing with energy, thriving bacteria and beautiful in its harmonious tension, reflecting the complexity of human anatomy and its raw vitality. It speaks to the inherent power of the body to regenerate, adapt, and thrive, even in the face of uncertainty. The work becomes a celebration of the beauty found in flux and change, where chaos and order exist in an intricate, symbiotic relationship."⁠

ART CONSULTANCY. Curatorial+Co. is delighted to share a recent art consultancy project completed at The Tank Stream Hotel, Sydney. Situated by Sydney’s first water supply, The Tank Stream Hotel draws its namesake and curatorial vision from its historic Pitt Street location.⁠
⁠
Hand-formed with patinated stainless steel mesh, Michael Baird’s large-scale wall relief appears to float across the wall with a sense of whimsy and freedom as though adrift from its moorings or caught by the breeze. The translucency of the mesh, with its folds and undulations, contribute to the water-like quality of the piece, illustrating a perfect analogy and connection with the nearby Tank Stream and the ebb and flow of people moving through.⁠
⁠
Says Michael of this work, “When I was first approached by Curatorial+Co. for this commission, I was immediately taken by how suitable my work would be for the hotel. I think the finished piece sits very well in the space and is a credit to all involved.”⁠
⁠
Ariella Friend’s artwork made from found wood and discarded materials evokes the vitality of water through her layered compositions, capturing the essence of sunlight as it catches a rippling stream. The interplay of translucent hues, light and texture mirrors the ephemeral nature of glistening water and the tension between humans and nature. Ariella’s work reflects the dynamic energy of the Tank Stream’s historical waters, inviting a contemplative connection to the city’s aquatic heritage and blending modern abstraction with the timeless rhythm of flowing currents.⁠
