Susie says of her work, "The coastal landscape (the environment my body is intricately connected to) offers a compelling sensory field for me to explore my being - this is why I am drawn to it. My painting practice engages a method of cultivated curiosity: slowing down and attuning my senses to the landscape, thereby accessing embodied knowledge that arises from thinking and feeling in unison."⁠

Drawing upon the artist’s own time spent living in Florence and the specific purple-hued sunsets that rounded out each day there, Hunt is carefully adding colours to a palette that should appear limited but is, instead, alive with the same forcefulness as her inspirations: mist on waves, morning breaking through night, distant storms and the heaving breath of wind over land. Courtney McClelland is a contemporary painter based on Gadigal land in Sydney, Australia. Her works are grounded in representations of the female figure emerging from an elusive, imagined landscape. The nude bodies are drawn from a place of desire, calling out to each other and crumbling in focus. Often ethereal, the distorted scenes take references from historical paintings of bacchanalia, rituals, brawls, and Victorian fairies but differ in the agency she injects into these suspended figures. ⁠
⁠
Says McClelland of her work, "I have always been drawn to painting the body – it’s something that is familiar in its form but has infinite translations and stories transcribed within it. The body is an emblem for the sensations, histories, desires, intimacies and vulnerabilities that exist within it. Each of these works has its own story. In a way, each painting feels like an excavation - I am digging out parts of the body, rendering its curves and reassembling them to feel out an image."⁠

Drawing from her own personal experiences of migration and motherhood, Caday’s exhibition is centered around the Tagalog word, balikbayan, a common term that signifies connection, culture and identity in Filipino communities all over the globe.⁠
⁠
As a first-generation immigrant, Caday examines the conceptual notion of ‘returning home’, both in the sense of returning to her roots and her country of birth, and as well as returning to her own body and mind following the recent birth of her second child. In this exhibition, Caday uses the term to surrender to the cycles of evolution and examine the recurring concepts of heritage, environment, and motherhood in the journey of returning. ⁠
