Curatorial+Co. is excited to unveil a recently completed Art Consultancy project at central Queensland’s first five-star hotel, Peppers Gladstone at Yaralla Sports Club in collaboration with BSPN Architecture. The curated collection of original artworks draws inspiration from the region’s diverse landscapes across four key themes: bush, rainforest, coast and city.⁠

The newly completed hotel showcases a collection of over 75 bespoke artworks throughout the lobby, corridors and guest suites by William Versace, Claire Cavanna, Morgan Shimeld and Katrina O’Brien. From rugged bushlands and lush rainforests to coastal vistas and contemporary cityscapes, the landscape of Central Queensland informs each aspect of the hotel’s art curation. Seamlessly integrated with the hotel’s design, each piece has been crafted to reflect its surroundings through a contemporary lens, fostering a deep connection between place and experience.⁠

Assembling two objects of contrasting value in his sculptural work 'Malocchio', William Versace questions the things that we value, why we value what we value, what determines value and who decided that it was valuable. “Who’s history are you preserving? Why are you preserving the heritage? Why is it important?” asks William. “Arbitrary notions of importance are always fascinating to me. Particularly in this country. What and who determines importance of different aspects of objects or culture.”⁠

This work is comprised of a found relic and cast bronze. For the bronze element, the artist employs a process called lost wax casting which involves the artist creating a sculpture of hot wax – thoughtfully shaping, pouring and dripping – a before the mould is made and bronze is cast.⁠

It is this unreachable realm of the unfixed and limitless that is reflected in Hunt’s 'A Thousand Miles'. The series of new paintings, awash with light and shadow, appear at once liquid and mutable yet construed with masterful precision. Drawing upon the artist’s time spent living in Florence and the specific purple-hued sunsets that rounded out each day there, Hunt is carefully adding colours to a palette that should appear limited but is, instead, alive with the same forcefulness as her inspirations: mist on waves, morning breaking through night, distant storms and the heaving breath of wind over land. Says de Kleine of this work, "Memories change and shift over time, details are lost, forgotten and abstracted. In this work I combined flat shades of grey with bright areas of colours and texture to represent these snippets of memory. Moments of realism and clarity are combined with surrealistic, distorted and inverted areas to represent how these memories shift with time.⁠

"The works have been developed through digital collage and then translated into mixed media paintings, undergoing a lengthy process of abstraction. This represents the notion that memories are always being rewritten and that each time we remember we move further from reality. The integration of technology in the process of creating the works touches on the amalgamation of technology in our lives and identity.⁠

"Symptomatic of the postmodern digital age, the paintings seek to explore the complexity of human experience and find a beauty within the chaos that is our reality.”⁠
