Katrina O’Brien’s striking works of ink, acrylic and graphite sway between painting and drawing. Indeed, Katrina sees her artwork as a kind of dance, and a way of delving into her own and others’ inner psyche.
Says Katrina: “This work was a delicate dance from start to finish. I came across a song a few months ago that stopped me in my tracks; Zaytoun, by Dry The River (from the UK, now disbanded). The vocals of Peter Liddle are so delicate, so fragile and yet…the quietness and the beauty of it screamed out at me. It wasn’t even a thought – I grabbed some paper, threw it on the walls and responded to the sound that I was hearing. There is no way I could do the song or the vocals justice with my work, so some of the works are just my pure response to the song. As this particular work evolved, it became clear that it was responding to a particular lyric “I witnessed the youth washing off us and pool round our feet like a lake.”
Initialed on front.
This work is framed in raw oak with perspex.
