This series of photograms is the extension of William Versace’s ongoing exploration of connecting to Country by putting the place he is working with and its elements at the centre of the works. He works directly with the living place, as it is – a living being, a complex, multi faceted, biological, physical, metaphysical, constantly changing and flowing and dying place. The photograms are then printed on aluminium through a dye sublimination technique to achieve the intense colour saturation.

Says William: “Using an experimental, camera-less photographic method, I have mapped and ‘photographed’ various elements from different rock pools by the ocean in Kamay, Sydney. Attempting to make the invisible visible, the photographs show elements of the rock pools that one would otherwise not see – different chemical structures, bacterias, temperatures and UV light.”

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands – Kamay, more specifically, Bunnabi, the north headland of Botany Bay, on Gadigal land. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and we celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal peoples and their ongoing cultures and connections to the lands and waters of NSW.
