This work will be shown in Darlings 2021, Curatorial+Co.’s annual small works group show. Darlings was created in response to the 2020 pandemic as a joyful way for artists and collectors of all backgrounds to come together and celebrate creativity and unity.

Says Brett of his practice: ” Experimenting with its malleability, I’ve been working primarily with paint in its solid state rather than its liquid beginnings. In reversing the painting process I expose its bold and alluring characteristics as a medium. There is an underlying tension of materiality that takes place between the chemical plasticity of the medium and the organic way the paint skins have settled into shape. Naturally occurring patterns form within each brush stroke as if frozen in time. Colours crystalise, intertwine and separate giving birth to new interpretations of creation. Space and time become an essential ingredient to the physicality of each piece. Each work instigates a linear and hypnotic journey towards transcendence through abstraction.”
