Amber Hearn’s latest body of work is a series of self-portraits woven into landscapes that capture the anticipation of the arrival of her daughter, speaking to both the emotional and physical shifts within the body. The works highlight the complexities of labour and childbirth, whilst encapsulating the symbiotic relationship between the pain and beauty of that experience.
Says Amber of this work, “Surrender to Her is a painting that explores letting go and embracing my womanhood. It celebrates my body and its experiences and resilience. The mountainous forms symbolise feminine bodily shapes, while the orange tent evokes a sense of flowing blood yet also references home, comfort and safety.
“The juxtaposition of vibrant colours with grounding earthy tones reflects my integration with my home and local landscape. This work presents my journey of grounding and accepting change, allowing my body to make space for growth and new life along with healing past pains.”
