The Balance of an Approaching Scent Part II

MITCHELL CHEESMAN

Oil on canvas

50cm  H x 40cm W x 4cm D

One-of-a-kind

2021

Unframed

Mitchell Cheesman’s work is inspired by beauty found in the mundane. Fields of wildflowers don’t catch his eye but instead the wildflower growing from a crack in the pavement as he wonders down another cement-laden street. From his studio on the Sunshine Coast, Mitchell produces stunning, evocative still life paintings that play with notions of beauty and brute.

He likes to play and subvert the somewhat delicate nature of traditional still life by exaggerating elements of the flowers and vases he paints. Mitchell’s latest series of works pushes this notion further as he embraces more abstract compositions.

Mitchell is a Queensland-based self taught artist who works with oil paint to create stunning, vivacious paintings. Growing up, Mitchell was always told off in school for drawing instead of working, exploring and at the age of 18 decided to start making art seriously.
