This painting is about a strange period years ago back in Ireland. I lived in a rural community near the sea. My brother and I used to go on lots of hikes and adventures in the area. One day, on the side of the road on a small cliff opposite someone’s house, we came across a camp site. A man had set up a tent and made a makeshift letterbox in a bush and clearly was intent on making some kind of claim to the property opposite him. He seemed to be waiting for something, some kind of resolution. After a few weeks he disappeared and his tent slowly fell into disrepair. It was a very surreal scene and it’s stuck with me ever since.
