Says Amy of her latest works: “This collection of work reflects on our enforced Covid lockdown situations around the country over the past 18 months. Being an artists based in Victoria, where we have been locked down several times, the search for inspiration has come from my close surroundings – often within a 5km radius. I am extremely lucky to Iive and work in a semi rural environment; I am close to to the Barwon River and Geelong Botanic Gardens as well as the rugged terrain of Anakie Gorge and the eerie ghost gums and bountiful wildflowers of Steiglitz. These pockets of landscape have been my saviour over this time and their paths a bounty of inspiration. These works are a fusing of the raw and untamed landscapes of the wild terrain and the landscapes that have been orchestrated by the hand of the gardener. They feel like ‘Home’.”

Amy’s landscapes are represented through rich colour, texture and rhythmic abstract patterning, referencing the structure and details of plants and found objects in their natural environments. She captures the ‘unnoticed details’ in the rich Australian bush, where leaves and roots and trunks and flowers are stripped to their simplest form and colour, then built up again through accents of light and shadow, brushstroke and line work to create landscape paintings of intense depth.
