Amy Wright - This Is Not Solitude

Amy Wright

Amy Wright - Australian Artist - Landscape Artist

Amy Wright is a multidisciplinary artist with a diverse background in painting and drawing, surface pattern design and floral artistry. Amy’s interest lies in the area of painted abstracted landscapes and she draws inspiration from the incredible array of botanicals that surround her home and studio in southern Victoria, Australia.

Directly influenced by both botanic materials and shifting landscapes, Amy’s work looks to emulate the essence of botanical forms in their natural environment. Mediums are mixed and explorative, and she uses a technique of layering of water-based paints, oil paints and pencil to create tactile and textured surfaces that are reminiscent of collage.

Her landscapes are represented through rich colour, texture and rhythmic abstract patterning, referencing the structure and details of plants and found objects in their natural environments. Amy captures the ‘unnoticed details’ in the rich Australian bush, where leaves and roots and trunks and flowers are stripped to their simplest form and colour, then built up again through accents of light and shadow, brushstroke and line work to create landscape paintings of intense depth.

Amy studied Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts and holds a Bachelor of Textile Design from RMIT. She lives in the small township of Ceres in Greater Geelong and works from her garden studio.

During the 2020 and 2021 Victorian lockdowns, Amy found solace and purpose in gardening and exploring her 5km radius. Whilst at first the sudden shrinking of her world was daunting, through the challenges of the pandemic, Amy found deep inspiration from the infinite life and beauty of her natural surroundings.
