Natalie Rosin on her Adobe series: ‘A famous quote by modernist architect Louis Kahn reads: You say to brick, “What do you want, brick?” Brick says to you, “I like an arch.” if you say to brick, “arches are expensive and I can use a concrete lintel over an opening. What do you think of that, brick?” Brick says: “I like an arch.” In the same sense, I asked the raw clay in my hands: “What do you want, clay?” and clay says: “if you are to make me into an architectural sculpture, I would like to be an adobe form. Adobe is a building material made from earth and organic materials and that is what I would like most.” ‘
